DEAR SUN SPOTS: John F. Murphy Homes is an agency that provides support services to people with mental disabilities in the local community. We have a number of folks who are interested in playing softball, and we are developing recreational softball teams with the people we support and staff.

If any of your readers are busy cleaning their garages and basements, we are looking for the following items: gently used adult-sized softball gloves and batting helmets, softballs and bats. Items can be dropped off at 800 Center St, Auburn, or call or email me. — Vicki Ward, 782-2726, ext 209, vward@jfmhomes.org

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I thought I saved the section from old newspapers that reported a story about a Portland convenience store that denied access to person with a service dog, but it must have gone out with the recycling. I’ve tried searching website with every possible combo and nothing relevant comes up. Could you please point me to this story? Thanks. — Steve via email

ANSWER: The story you describe did appear in the Sun Journal, but it was written by a Portland Press Herald reporter. The Sun Journal has an agreement with several other Maine newspapers to share stories. However, that agreement precludes placing the other newspapers’ stories on the Sun Journal website, which is why you couldn’t find it. You can read the story at http://tinyurl.com/5t522tu.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I was wondering if you know of anyone in the Lewiston Auburn area who does eBay, as I have some things that I would like to sell to make some extra money to survive on. If so, they may contact me at 240-4668 anytime.

Also, as I was going through the old newspapers, I saw that there is some money that is unclaimed, and I was wondering if maybe that I may have some after all. How can I find this out?

Thank you for your time and attention in this matter and keep up the good work. — Scott Touchette via email

ANSWER: Sun Spots has two names in her Rolodex for eBay sellers:

* Stephen J. Martelli, Auburn, 786-9116, sjmartelli@myfairpoint.net

* Nola, Goin Postal, 120 Center St., Auburn, 784-9900

The column about the veteran who helps people find unclaimed funds appeared April 10. You can read it at http://tinyurl.com/66xs77g. You can find Ellis McKeen at 38 Bog Hill Road, West Gardiner, ME 04345, 582-2988, EllisMcKeen@aol.com. He asks folks to put “All Season Santa” in the subject line because of the problem of opening mail from unknowns and getting a virus.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I just read the May 7 story from the person asking about the song “There Was I Waiting at the Church.” I found a version of the song sung by a Lily Morris on YouTube: http://tinyurl.com/62kfytt. It appears to be a clip from an old movie.

There is also a version by Vesta Victoria from a 1907 recording (http://tinyurl.com/5tdsvk8), but it doesn’t seem as funny. — Brian via email

ANSWER: Sun Spots watched both, and she agrees. The first is funnier.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: A person who will appreciate receiving canceled stamps (April 28 inquiry) is Sr. Gilberte Boisvert, 209 Lawrence St., Methuen, MA 01844. — Denise Dubois, Lewiston

NOTE: Lately Sun Spots has received several letters from people who want to sell items. You can give stuff away in Sun Spots, but you can’t sell it. If you’d like to sell something, the Sun Journal will gladly accept your classified ad!

This column is for you, our readers. It is for your questions and comments. There are only two rules: You must write to the column and sign your name (we won’t use it if you ask us not to). Please include your phone number. Letters will not be returned or answered by mail, and telephone calls will not be accepted. Your letters will appear as quickly as space allows. Address them to Sun Spots, P.O. Box 4400, Lewiston, ME 04243-4400. Inquiries can also be e-mailed to sunspots@sunjournal.com.
