WEST PARIS — The West Paris Library has begun a beginning knitting class under the direction of Elaine Emery. The beginning knitters learned about the different types of yarn and related projects, how to cast on stitches, knit, purl and bind off. Each knitter produced a swatch of stockinette stitch and a swatch of garter stitch. Each person chose a particular pattern to use to make a dishcloth.  The classes are free; knitting needles and cotton yarn are provided. A second set of classes is planned for late May.

The ceiling and lights in the old section of the library have been undergoing renovation. This month also saw the mounting of plaques recognizing the major donors to the Library Building Fund for the new addition, which was completed last year.

The opening reception for the Yes! Art Matters exhibit was a big success. This exhibit features the very creative and colorful art projects of the children of Agnes Gray School in West Paris. These were created under the direction of art teacher Eva Kozun. The exhibit runs until the end of May.

The Friends of the Library’s annual Easter Egg Hunt was well attended. More than 30 children and at least as many adults arrived by 9 a.m. on a dark and damp April 23. The normally quiet library was transformed by excited voices and busy hands. In addition to the eggs collected, each child received a glow bracelet and a book. The children were entertained before and after the hunt with poems and stories, as well as a “hands-on” craft project after the hunt.

The library is open on Monday from 1:30 to 6 p.m., on Wednesday from 1:30 to 7 p.m., on Friday from 1:30 to 6 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, call the library at 674-2004.
