FARMINGTON — A Wilton man was arrested Sunday after he allegedly struck a woman with a lantern and choked her as they camped at Pismo Beach next to the Sandy River in Farmington.
State police arrested Theodore J. Wallace, 34, of Dryden on charges of aggravated assault, criminal mischief and violation of conditions of release. The criminal mischief charge resulted from breaking the lantern, and he was already on bail for another charge resulting in the release violation, state police Sgt. Aaron Hayden said Tuesday.
State police dispatchers received a 911 call from the woman’s cellphone Sunday. She told police she was being assaulted, he said.
Wallace left the scene while police were interviewing the woman. He was later located at his mother’s home in Wilton and arrested by Maine State Trooper Randall Keaten.
Hayden said the woman was physically OK after the assault.
Farmington police officers assisted at the scene.
Wallace made an initial appearance in court Tuesday where bail was set at $500 cash. As of late Monday afternoon, he was still being held at Franklin County Detention Center.
