LEWISTON — A New York man was arrested at a Lewiston motel Friday, charged with running over a man and woman with an SUV in Leeds hours earlier.

Theodore Murray, 27, was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon.

The incident began at about 2:30 a.m. when the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department received a report that a man had been run over and shots may have been fired in the area of 62 Jennings Road in Leeds.

When deputies arrived, they found two people — Danielle Buck, 22, of Livermore Falls and Nathan Kelley, 27, of Greene — had been struck by a vehicle in the Jennings Road driveway.

The victims were treated for a variety of injuries and released, police said.

As they began investigating, deputies learned that Murray had fled the scene with his wife in a Mercury Mountaineer with the driver’s side rear window broken out.

For hours, sheriff’s deputies investigated the incident and searched for the suspect.

At 11:34 a.m., deputies found Murray in a room at Motel 6 on Pleasant Street in Lewiston, police said. He was taken into custody and later charged. By Friday night, he was being held at the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn on $10,000 cash bail.

Police said Murray’s wife was with him at the motel when deputies arrived. Deputies had received information that Murray may have beaten his wife, but she refused medical treatment at the motel.

Police identified Murray’s wife as 23-year-old Yisel Murray, 23, of New York. As they investigated, deputies learned that Yisel is an illegal alien. She was also being held at the Androscoggin County Jail.

The incident remained under investigation Friday night.
