AUBURN — The annual meeting and potluck of the West Auburn School Historical Society was held on April 28 at the one-room school.
Newly elected officers for the coming year are Roland Lachance, treasurer; Steve Marsden, president; Mary Buker, secretary; and Richard Knight, vice-president.
Gott to speak
AUBURN — South Paris resident Patricia Probert Gott will discuss her 10th book, “Searching for a Magpie: My Adventures in China and Tibet,” from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, June 9, at the Auburn Public Library. The book chronicles the time she spent in September 2010 traveling in a loop from Beijing on to Xian; central Chengdu; Llasa, Tibet; the old city of Chongqing; down the Yangtzee River; and finally on to the port city of Shanghai. Copies of the book will be available for signing and purchase. This is a free noontime Brown Bag Lunch Program. Bring a bagged lunch if you like or order out at The Library Cafe. Drinks and dessert will be supplied.
Eastern Star
AUBURN — Pine Cone Chapter 26, Order of the Eastern Star will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 9, at the Masonic Hall, 1021 Turner St.
Carolyn “Kelly” Landry, associate grand matron, will conduct the chapter’s official visitation.
All Eastern Star members are welcome. Refreshments will be served in the dining hall following the meeting.
Danville Grange
AUBURN — Members of Danville Junction Grange will dine at the Village Inn at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, June 9. Reservations must be made by calling Glenys Ryder at 783-6897.
Following the meal, a business meeting will be held at the grange hall at 7 p.m., during which time an obligation ceremony will be conducted for new candidates. Any grange having candidates in need of this ceremony are invited to bring them. Election of officers will be held during the meeting. All members and guests are welcome.
Blood drive
WINTHROP — A community blood drive will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Thursday, June 9, at St. Francis Xavier Parish Hall, Route 133. The drive is open to all donors and all are welcome.

Summer camps
TURNER — Summer camps offered by MSAD 52 Adult Education offer kids a chance to build relationships, learn new skills and have fun. There are many sport camps which begin the middle of June. They include soccer, basketball, field hockey and football.
Three trips offered in June include West Side Story, World Flower Shop and Boston Pops.

Soccer camp
TURNER —Registration for the MSAD #52 Adult & Community Education-sponsored Challenger Soccer Camp is now ongoing. Participants can register online at challengersports.com.
Dates for the camp are July 25-29 at Turner Primary School.
Mini Soccer for ages 4 and 5 will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. for a fee of $80.
Half Day for ages 6 to 14 will be held from 9 a.m. to noon. $125.
Full Day for ages 7 to 14 will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. $175.

Big Bands
WAYNE — Lincoln Ladd will talk about Big Bands at 7 p.m. Friday, June 10, at the Cary Memorial Library, 17 Old Winthrop Road. He will discuss the bands that were so popular during the ’40s: Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Glen Miller and others. The talk will include selected recordings from their music (assisted by Taylor Stevenson). All are invited. The program is free and refreshments will be served.

Cancer survivors
AUBURN — The American Cancer Society invites all local cancer survivors to attend the Relay For Life of Androscoggin County on Saturday, June 11, at Edward Little High School track. Relay will kick-off with the opening ceremony and survivor/caregiver lap at 12:15 p.m.
The society believes a cancer survivor is one who defines themselves as such from the time of diagnosis through the balance of life.

Wheels for the World
AUGUSTA — Wheels for the World will sponsor a collection of wheelchairs and other mobility aids at Augusta Walmart from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 11. The wheelchairs, walkers, aluminum canes and crutches collected will be restored and distributed to 22 countries where the disabled cannot get such “luxuries” and are left as castaways or have to drag themselves around by their hands. Wheels for the World is a ministry of Joni and Friends.

LEWISTON — A community shredding day will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 11, at Pleasant Street Plaza, 475 Pleasant St. The event is sponsored by Roger A. Auger & Associates, a financial advisory practice of Ameriprise Financial Services, Inc.

Dovetails workshop
NEW GLOUCESTER — Proper layout procedures, techniques and tricks to constructing dovetails will be the theme of a hands-on workshop held at the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village on Saturday, June 11. Two sessions offered. Chris Becksvoort, master craftsman, is the instructor. Fee is $35; preregistration is required.
DAR yard sale
SABATTUS – Burnt Meadow Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, will hold a yard sale to benefit the Chapter Treasury, with a brown bag lunch and chapter meeting after the sale.
The sale will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 11, at the home of Mrs. Corley Byras, 176 Litchfield Road, Bowdoin.
Members have been asked to bring sale items to Mrs. Byras’ home prior to the sale with prices on them.
Sheila Desgrosseilliers will present a program, “Folds of the Flag,” during the afternoon meeting at 1:30 p.m. The NIP for this Triennium is in and will be distributed to committee chairmen.
