WEST PARIS — “Music In The Air” is the theme for the annual West Paris Old Home Days on Friday, June 10, and Saturday, June 11.

Live music is also on tap for both days, Robyn Green of West Paris said Wednesday afternoon.

“It will be a rain or shine event,” she said.

“Right now, we’re making arrangements for indoor venues for some of the events should it rain.”

From 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, the West Paris Historical Society Museum will be open. A flag ceremony there starts at 4 p.m.

At 5 p.m., musician Jim Bennett, who will be dressed in Civil War attire, will perform music from that period.

Paul Lowell of Rumford will perform acoustic favorites at 6 p.m. That will be followed by Friday evening’s main event — a rock ‘n’ roll street dance featuring Rumford band Monsta.

That will be second only to the annual fireworks, which start at 9 p.m. on Friday; Saturday night, if it rains Friday.

The Mollyockett Sportsman’s Club will sell breakfast Saturday and serve burgers, hot dogs and fries both days.

“The club, which builds and maintains area snowmobile trails, will also host their annual ‘Duck Race,’” Green said.

Beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday at The Little Castle Library, local author Raymond Miller will be signing his co-authored book, “From the Volcano to the Gorge: Getting the Job Done on Iwo Jima.”

It’s about Miller’s experiences at Iwo Jima.

Four on a Match, a women’s barbershop quartet, will sing popular music from the World War II era unaccompanied by musical instruments in four-part harmony, Green said.

“Stitches from the Heart,” a collection of crewel and Jacobean embroidery, will be a featured display presented by The Friends of the West Paris Library.

“It is the stunning work of much loved West Paris resident Leone Bane Penley (1910-1999) and is being shown for the first time as a collection,” Green said.

“It is the fourth in a series of art exhibits featuring West Paris artists since the newly expanded addition was added last year.”

The annual parade kicks off at 11 a.m.

It will be followed by a chicken barbecue luncheon at the West Paris Fire Department and a noontime feature by the new Maine state champion West Paris Bobcat Pom and Twirl Team.

At 12:30 p.m., a Baby Pageant will be held leading up to the hip-hop styling of Jaci’s Jazzettes.

At 2 p.m., a show titled “The Magic of the Steelgraves,” featuring Markus and Angelique Steelgrave will be held.

From noon to 4 p.m., the West Paris Historical Society Museum will be open.

Additionally, a music tent “will host a bevy of local talent” to midnight.

Green said the inauguration launch begins at 1 p.m. with Al Mallory from the Bunch of Old Hippies’ Band.

Musician Mary “Uke” Lady Hargraves performs debut selections from her upcoming CD at 2 p.m. She will also perform children’s favorites by request.

Other performers include Safe 2 Say at 3 p.m., Austin Williams at 4 p.m., and West Paris’s own Jo Plummer and Bob Gautier as Just US 2 at 5 p.m.

Sammy Chapman will host evening festivities with children’s music at 6 p.m.

Chapman will also play old and new original country, pop and blues tunes between set breaks.

The Saturday Night Street Dance features classic rock favorites with the Rockin’ Road Runners.

There will also be a petting zoo, magic show, rock-climbing wall, trapeze, food vendors, a lawnmower pull, toy train display by the Great Falls Railroad Club, 50/50 and raffle drawings, and a Chinese auction.

Rides are provided by Summit Adventures. Meadow Creek Farms will provide daily horse-drawn wagon rides through historic West Paris.

Green said volunteers are still needed to help. Would-be parade participants should contact vpoland@megalink.net or Jacisjazzettes@hotmail.com for vendor opportunities.
