PERU — Voters will go to the polls Tuesday, June 14, to elect officers and act on other articles in the annual warrant.
Polls will be open from noon to 7 p.m. at the Town Office. Absentee ballots are available.
Residents will elect two selectmen for three year terms. Kathy Hussey and Laurieann Milligan are seeking re-election. Former Selectman Jim Pulsifer is also seeking a seat on the board.
Fire Chief Bill Hussey and Road Commissioner Joe Roach are running unopposed for those offices.
The proposed municipal budget totals $697,401.19, which is $6,339.76 less than the current fiscal year.
Town Clerk Vera Parent said the proposed school budget is $1,434,640.38, which is $60,465.80 more than this year, and Oxford County assessment is $93,616.
She said the tax rate could change from its current $17.20 per $1,000 of valuation, depending on what voters decide.
All proposed department budgets are basically the same as this year, she said, but because voters wanted to see where the money goes, the articles will show costs of insurance, Social Security and other items, which will make them appear higher than last year.
“Voters must take into consideration that everything is included in each department this year,” Parent said. “When insurance was billed separately, people wanted to know where that insurance was going. Now they can see.”
The road budget of $254,490 now includes summer roads, tarred roads, garage operations and insurance.
Voters will decide whether they want to form a seven-member Conservation Commission to develop a report of information on the proper utilization, protection and potential development or use of all open spaces in town.
