LIVERMORE FALLS — A Livermore Falls man escaped serious injury when he lost control of a vehicle in heavy rain on Route 133 late Thursday afternoon.

George Hume, 46, was heading south on the road toward Wayne when it started to rain hard and the 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee hydroplaned, Livermore Falls police officer Steve Wilkinson said.

The Jeep rolled over several times before striking trees just south of Haines Corner Road, he said.

The accident occurred about 5:30 p.m. during a thunderstorm that knocked out power to several residences in Livermore Falls, Jay and Fayette.

Hume was checked at the scene by a NorthStar Emergency Medical ambulance crew but was not transferred to a hospital, Wilkinson said.

The Jeep, registered to Hume’s girlfriend, Susan Mayo of Livermore Falls, was damaged beyond repair, he said.

Livermore Falls firefighters directed traffic around the accident. Wilkinson was assisted at the scene by officer Bob Samson.
