Ray Michaud hangs photographs in the “Through the Lens” contest/exhibit at L/A Arts’ Gallery 5 in Lewiston. An opening reception will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 12. The exhibit, featuring 57 photographers and 86 images, is one of Gallery 5’s largest. “We hope that this exhibit will begin to raise public awareness of photography as a fine art,” said Tammie Grieshaber, Gallery 5 curator. “With a digital camera, almost anyone can take a good clear snapshot. But capturing an osprey as it dives for an alewife or the big dipper moving through the night sky or a landscape that you get lost in requires developing technical skills and a creative eye. This exhibit showcases some of the finest professional and amateur photographers in Maine, as well as some very talented students.” Images in the exhibit fall into four categories: black and white, color, computer composed and student for those in high school and younger. Prizes will be awarded at the reception. “Through the Lens” will be on view through July 16 at the gallery at 49 Lisbon St.
