Edward Little 6, Cony 5

AUGUSTA — A sacrifice fly by James Jackson gave Edward Little the lead for good and reliever Nate Blais struck out the final hitter with the tying run on base to lead the No. 6 Red Eddies to a 6-5 victory over No. 3 Cony in the Eastern Class A baseball quarterfinals on Friday.

Edward Little (10-7) broke a 2-2 tie when Jackson followed a walk and an error for a sacrifice Fly. A wild pitch followed to score the inning’s second run.

The Red Eddies then added two huge insurance runs in the sixth, highlighted by Blais’ infield single that scored a run.

Luke Farrago, who struck out 10 and scattered five hits, needed relief help in the seventh after walking the first two batters. After Blais walked his first batter, the next two hit sacrifice flies to cut the lead to 6-5. Blais ended the threat by fanning the next hitter on a 1-2 count.
