A five-student team from Lewiston’s Pettingill School took the challenge posed in the New England Mathematics League Annual Elementary Grades Contest.
Corey Saucier, Jeremy Roy, Allan Ingraham, Ethan Loiselle and Joshua Indermuehle ended up answering 156 of their 200 questions correctly — making them the top math team in Androscoggin and Sagadahoc counties.
Miss Saucier, the team’s only fifth-grader, answered 35 right, putting her in a four-way tie for first. Roy selected the correct choice on 31 questions, while Ingraham, Loiselle and Indermuehle each were right on 30. All are sixth-graders.
