FARMINGTON — Selectmen unanimously confirmed the hiring of Farmington Police Department’s newest officer Tuesday.

Ryan J. Rosie, 27, began a six-week field-training program with the department this week.

Rosie grew up in Thomaston and earned a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice in 2009 from Lake Superior College in Michigan, police Chief Jack Peck told the board.

He will attend the Maine Criminal Justice Academy for 18 weeks starting in either January or August 2012, Peck said.

Rosie and his wife and children decided to return to Maine about a year ago and are living in the Starks area. He hopes to move them to Farmington.

“I’m thrilled to be here and to have this opportunity,” Rosie said.

The hiring fills one of the two vacancies in the department, Peck said.
