PARIS — The Paris Public Library invites the community to celebrate Joan Parker’s 13 years of service at the library. On Saturday, June 25, the library will hold an open house from 1 to 3 p.m. to recognize Joan. She is retiring at the end of June, although she still plans to continue hosting the weekly NPC-TV/Paris Public Library program Story Connections, and the library’s Thursday storytime once a month.

Joan worked 28 years as an elementary school teacher, including seven teaching music. She retired from Woodstock Elementary School in 1987. Shortly after, she became children’s librarian at the Norway Memorial Library, leaving in 1996. Joan came to the Paris Public Library as the Jeannette Merrill Soule addition was completed in 1998, and has been overseeing the library’s children’s services since, including its summer reading programs, storytimes and Story Connections program. She has personally assisted and entertained thousands of children during her time at Paris Public Library.
