TURNER — Trey Ouellette drove in five runs and Jeff Keene belted a home run Tuesday, powering Gayton Post to a 12-0 victory over Andy Valley in its Zone 3 American Legion baseball opener.
Ouellette had three hits, including a three-run double that staked defending state champion Gayton to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Keene belted his homer in the third, when Gayton boosted the margin to 9-0.
Corbin Hyde and Scott Ouellette each had two hits, including a triple by Ouellette.
Matt Bowen pitched a three-hitter over the six-inning route. Casey Robertson took the loss for Andy Valley (0-4). Shawn Berry and Jake Irish also took the hill in relief.
Brunswick 7, Swasey-Torrey 5
DIXFIELD — Stephen Carter cranked a three-run home run in the fourth inning and was 3-for-4 with four RBIs in all Tuesday, bumping Brunswick to a 7-5 Zone 3 American Legion baseball win over Swasey-Torrey Post at Harlow Park.
Alex Viola was 2-for-3 for Brunswick (2-1). Chris Bruno and Garrett Erb each added a double. Carter’s homer off Connor Blais gave Brunswick a 7-2 lead in thh fourth.
Ryan Salerno picked up the win on the mound. Carter pitched the seventh to earn the save.
Blais went the distance in the season-opener for Swasey-Torrey, striking out six. He also had a huge night at the plate. Blais ripped a two-run homer in the second, a triple in the fifth and a single in the sixth. He drove in three runs.
Arik Fenstermacher hit three singles and scored a run for Swasey-Torrey.
Bethel/Locke Mills 4, Smith-Tobey 2
BATH — Spencer Couch had a two-run single in the sixth inning, and Bethel/Locke Mills remained undefeated in Zone 3 American Legion baseball with a 4-2 win Tuesday over Smith-Tobey.
Bethel/Locke Mills (4-0) scored three runs in the sixth inning, providi8ng needed insurance after Smith-Tobey (1-2) rallied for two in the bottom half.
Corey Howard and T.J. O’Connor each nailed a double for Bethel/Locke Mills. Ben Field went the distance on the mound, allowing five hits.
Cooper Jones had a two-run single in the sixth for Smith-Tobey.
