FARMINGTON — Farmington will join 12 other Maine communities in hosting an annual fundraising walk to support those whose lives are affected by multiple sclerosis, according to the Greater New England Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

The first annual Walk MS Farmington is planned for Sept. 24. Volunteers are needed to serve on the organizing committee. The first committee meeting will take place in mid-July, Steve Faloon, MS Society development coordinator, said.

“We are very excited to welcome residents of the greater Farmington area to the Walk MS family,” Faloon said. “People in this part of Maine have been extremely generous over the years in supporting their friends and neighbors who live with MS, and now Walk MS Farmington makes it possible for them to do this important work within their own community,” he said.

Funds raised will help provide programs, services and advocacy for the 3,000 people in Maine diagnosed with MS and their families. In addition, this event will help fund hope for the future by providing essential resources to the scientists and researchers who are working to find a cure for MS.

Multiple sclerosis, which affects the central nervous system, interrupts the flow of information from the brain to the body.
