LISBON — The Moxie Festival Committee announces changes to the Moxie Festival Recipe Contest and the Chug-n-Challenge to be held on Saturday, July 9, during the three-day Moxie Festival weekend.

Last year’s entrants hailed from Bangor to Weymouth, Mass., and Moxie recipes included a cake, barbecue sauce, mustard and Moxie couscous.

There is no fee for the Moxie Recipe Contest. Registration forms are available online at the Moxie Festival website (www.MoxieFestival.com), at the Main Street Stage in Lisbon Falls on Saturday, July 9, or you can contact the organizer, Justin, at justin.samsown@gmail.com.

All recipes must be original and contain the magic ingredient: Moxie. Entries must be brought to the Main Street Stage on Main Street between 11 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. in a disposable container with a registration form.

The judging will begin at 1 p.m., after the parade at the Main Street Stage. The top-rated Moxie recipe will be awarded $50 and a 2011 Moxie Festival T-Shirt. Other winners will receive award ribbons.

The Moxie Chug-n-Challenge will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 9, at the Main Street stage. This year there will be a $5 entry fee and there will be a limit of five contestants. Contestants will bid to be part of the challenge; $5 back to contestant and $5 to the Moxie Festival.

The time to consume will be 2 minutes, which will be timed by the judge/referee. The chugging winner will receive one 12-pack of Moxie, a Moxie Festival T-shirt and bragging rights until the 2012 Moxie Festival.

Since 1983, the Moxie Festival has been held on the second weekend in July. The 2011 Moxie Festival weekend is July 8-10. The festival now includes a three-day Pow Wow, Friday night fireworks and a Saturday parade and 5K race. The Chief Worumbo Androscoggin River Race will take place Sunday. Moxie was designated Maine’s official soft drink on May 20, 2005.
