PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Maine’s new state budget is going to allow the state’s judicial branch to fill 30 to 35 positions that have been left vacant in recent years because of budget constraints.
Results of the change should be more security screening at the state’s courthouses and clerks’ offices will be better staffed.
The positions will be filled over time because the budget does not allow for filling all the slots at once.
The Portland Press Herald says security screening now takes place 20 percent of the time at Maine’s 39 courthouses. The new budget should raise that to 25 percent.
