LEWISTON — Due to renovations being done at the Blake Street facility during July and August, The Center for Wisdom’s Women will temporarily relocate two blocks away, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 247 Bates St. They will be using the upstairs community space, access through the double doors on Bates Street.
Regular open hours will be Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon, with some support groups scheduled later during afternoon hours. The center will close July 1 and 4 for the holiday weekend, and for vacation the last two weeks of July.
There will be a variety of crafts available throughout the summer including making sunflower pins, crochet necklaces, wisdom boxes and cards. Also planned are weekly drumming and singing sessions, several field trips and a daily book club. The first book will be “Seedfolks” by Paul Fleishman.
On Mondays, Pat Gardiner will continue to lead the writers’ workshop at 10 a.m. and host an exploration of neighboring faiths at noon. The Al-Anon lunch group will continue to meet on Wednesdays from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. Wisdom Circle, led by Sarah Wood from SACC, will gather from 1 to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays, July 12, Aug. 2, 16 and 30. Shanna Rogers from the Neighborhood Housing League will be available each Tuesday from 9 to 10 a.m. to consult with anyone about landlord and tenant issues.
Field trips being planned are a stroll down Lisbon Street led by Cheryl Hamilton to visit and learn about new African shops, a trip to the Atrium Gallery at USM LA College, a private tour and scavenger hunt at the Lewiston Library and trips to local strawberry and sunflower farms. Advance sign-up is required to participate in any field trip.
Thanks to an outreach grant from The Maine Community Foundation’s Charity Fund, the center will also be a presence at the Farmers’ Market on Tuesday afternoons in July and August at Kennedy Park, and doing outreach work in the neighborhood during other afternoons. Look for women wearing a sunflower pin.
The Center for Wisdom’s Women welcomes all women. Programs are offered free of charge. For a complete calendar of activities, call 513-3922 or see www.wisdomswomen.org.
