RUMFORD — Public Library summer hours will go into effect Tuesday, July 5.
The library will reduce its hours of operation from 45 a week to 40 a week during the summer.
“It was a difficult decision to make,” said Luke Sorensen, the Rumford Public Library director and head librarian.
The library’s shortened schedule was due to the cost of utilities and funding issues that resulted in the need to cut the hours of part-time staffers, Sorensen said.
The new hours are Monday, 9 a.m.—2 p.m.; Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 9 a.m.—5 p.m.; and Thursday, 9 a.m—8 p.m.
