NORWAY — Robert Elwin Sessions, 88, of Norway passed away on Wednesday, June 29, with his family by his side at Stephens Memorial Hospital, after a short battle with lung and heart disease.

“Bob” was born in Norway, June 1, 1923, to Leonard and Annie (Whitehouse) Sessions. Bob graduated from Norway High School in 1941. He then joined the U.S. Army, where he proudly and honorably served. During his tenure, he saw the best and worst, first serving in an office in Honolulu, Hawaii, before being shipped to the front lines with the 83rd Infantry Division, where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

Bob married Marjy Eleanor Wentworth and they built a family with four sons and spent 58 years together. Bob worked in the retail lumber business for many years. He managed the Diamond National lumber yard in Norway, where he worked for 25 years. He also worked for SAD 17 School District as Superintendent of buildings and grounds. Bob also worked for Swan Supply and Hancock Lumber where he retired.

Bob and Marjy also started the first modern storage facility in the Oxford Hills with their son, Scott. Bob was a very active member of his community as a member of the Stone Smart American Legion, VFW Post No. 9787 in South Paris, the local Grange, the Oxford Hills School Board, the Norway Fire Department, the Oxford Hills Chamber of Commerce, the Oxford Hills School board of directors, the Maine Veterans’ Home board of directors, the Oddfellows Club, and the Weary Club. He was also a long-time member of the Hillsman Chorus. Bob and Marjy were very instrumental in convincing the Maine Veterans’ Home to locate a new facility in South Paris.

Bob was a very humble man, who was always eager to help others. He will be sadly missed but fondly remembered.

Bob is survived by his wife, Marjy; four sons, Edward Brown and partner, Janet Nickerson, of Stuart, Va., Scott and wife, Susan, of Mechanic Falls, Sumner and wife, Janet, of Norway and Sam and wife, Holly, of South Paris; six grandchildren, Christine, Gregory, Nicole, Shella, Melissa and Garret; and two great-grandchildren, Ryder and Kendall.
