BANGOR, Maine (AP) — Maine’s U.S. senators will have their walking shoes on during the 4th of July.

Sen. Olympia Snowe will celebrate the nation’s 235th Independence Day by marching in the Bangor-Brewer and Eastport parades. The first begins at 11 a.m. and Eastport’s starts at 2 p.m.

Snowe will be joined by Sen. Susan Collins in Eastport’s parade. Earlier in the day, Collins will also to deliver the keynote address at the Lubec Bicentenary Jubilee.

The holiday weekend is also being marked by enhanced police patrols on Maine’s highways. In addition to troopers in patrol cars, the state police plane will be enforcing speed limits from the air. The period around July 4th is one of the busiest times of the year on Maine roads.
