Bridge results

LEWISTON — The Lewiston -Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club held a quarterly club championship game on June 26 at the Multi-Purpose Center. Winners in Flight A were first, Luke Merry and Michael Quinn; second, Larry Fortier and Roger Labbe; tied at third, Claire Lyons and Lucille Theriault with Lucille Bilodeau and Alberta Turner.

Winners in Flight B were: first, Larry Fortier and Roger Labbe; second, Lucille Bilodeau and Alberta Turner. Winners in Flight C were Larry Fortier and Roger Labbe. Another game will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 5, at the center.

The club will hold a quarterly club championship game at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, at Schooner Estates, Auburn. A partner is guaranteed at all local games. For information, call Lucille Theriault at 783-0431.

Library program

WAYNE — Cary Memorial Library, 17 Old Winthrop Road, just off 133 in downtown Wayne, will host a presentation on spirituality and the environment by Franciscan nuns Nancy Earle and Miriam Devlin at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 7.

Earle is an artist who works in acrylics, and has a studio in Orland. Her paintings have been on magazine and book covers, as well as illustrations in a book by Joan Chittister titled “Heart of Flesh.”

Devlin is a missionary and physician, a graduate of Georgetown University and Bangor Theological Seminary. She has served in Taiwan, Bolivia, and now, Maine. Her teaching experience includes the Family Practice Residency program at Eastern Maine Medical Center, University of Maine Augusta and the School of Nursing at the University of Maine, Orono.

Since 1998, the two have collaborated on a program which focuses on the works of Fr. Thomas Berry, and includes approaches to eco-spirituality and sustainable permaculture.

Horse shows

TOPSHAM — The Maine Equine Super Showdeo will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 8, 9 and 10, at the Tospham Fairgrounds.

The event will include the Maine Barrel Racing Association and the National Barrel Horse Association, who will hold a show. There will be horse shows, open to the public, put on by Maine Trail Riders, Maine Quarter Horse Association and the Ellis River Riders of Andover.

There will be clinics, vendors and food booths. The Maine Cowboy Mounted Shooters will hold a training clinic Friday for those wanting to learn how to ride and shoot.

There will be raffle tickets and prizes. Parking is $5 a car with no admission fees.
