SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Wabanaki art will be on display at the Maine Mall in South Portland through Sept. 6.

The Wabanaki artwork includes intricately and elaborately woven baskets that are valued at up to several thousand dollars. The baskets will not be on sale at the mall.

The display is a collaborative effort between the Maine Indian Basketmakers Alliance and the Maine Crafts Association.

The exhibit is to help build awareness and value for individual Wabanaki artists from the four Native American Tribes in Maine: the Passamaquoddy Tribe, the Penobscot Indian Nation, the Houlton Band of Maliseets, and the Aroostook Band of Micmacs.
