NORWAY — A local man entered no plea to drug charges during his court appearance Friday.

Jack Turner Jr., 44, of 4 Hazen St., was charged Thursday with aggravated trafficking of a scheduled drug and possession of a scheduled drug, according to court records.

An arrest affidavit by officer Jeffrey Campbell of the Norway Police Department said the trafficking charge stems from a controlled drug purchase in April by a confidential informant.

Campbell wrote that the informant went to Turner’s apartment, which is less than 1,000 feet from Guy E. Rowe Elementary School, and purchased half a suboxone pill then turned it over to Campbell. The informant told Campbell that Turner had other prescription drugs, as well as cocaine, for sale.

At about 11 a.m. Thursday, Campbell went to Turner’s apartment with a search warrant, the affidavit said. He wrote that he confiscated two knives that Turner had in his possession, and that Turner admitted to having a small amount of marijuana.

Upon searching, Campbell said he located five pills later confirmed to be oxycodone, as well as marijuana and pill crushers.

Also seized as evidence were two digital scales, several other bottles of pills and several straws, one of which contained “a white substance,” according to Campbell’s affidavit.

The state asked for a $1,000 bail. The defense attorney at the hearing asked for a lower bail. She said Turner was being treated for cancer and would not be able to access his medication in jail.

Judge Paul Cote set his bail at $500 cash or a Maine Pretrial Services Contract. If released on bail, Turner is barred from use of illegal drugs or alcohol and is subject to random searches and testing. His would also be barred from having dangerous weapons.

Turner was granted a court-appointed attorney. His arraignment is set for 8:30 a.m. Sept. 6 in Oxford County Superior Court.
