Award-winning author Jenifer LeClair has written the second novel in her “Windjammer Mystery Series,” with the rugged Maine coastline as the backdrop for mystery and suspense.
In “Danger Sector,” homicide detective Brie Beaumont is back sailing aboard the Maine Wind. Still on leave from the Minneapolis Police Department after being shot, she has joined the crew of the Maine Wind.
She and Capt. DuLac sail to Sentinel Island to help repair an old lighthouse whose previous owner died under mysterious circumstances. When Beaumont discovers that an artist and prominent member of the community has gone missing, she feels compelled to investigate. Drawn into the mysterious web of an island cabal and the pages of a secret journal, she is soon caught up in an undercurrent of broken dreams and hidden secrets.
Using her keen investigative skills, she uncovers a mystery whose roots stretch back three decades, encompassing shadowy connections to the black market art world, an illegal adoption and a tragic love story.
As a Nor’easter bears down on the island, the action accelerates to a climax in which Beaumont is pitted against the fury of a ruthless killer.
LeClair, who lives in Vadnais Heights, Minn., has sailed aboard Maine windjammers since 1995. “Rigged for Murder,” her debut novel in the “Windjammer Mystery Series,” won a 2009 Independent Publishers Award for Best Regional Fiction for the U.S. Northeast. “Rigged for Murder” also won the 2009 RebeccasReads Award for Best Mystery/Thriller.
