AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — A former high school teacher in Maine is going to jail for six months for sexually touching a student.

District Attorney Evert Fowle said 38-year-old Scott Wood pleaded guilty Tuesday in Kennebec County Superior Court to one count of unlawful sexual touching as part of a plea agreement. Wood surrendered his teaching license and agreed to pay $2,000 to pay for counseling for the victim.

Wood was arrested in June for inappropriately touching a female student at Winslow High School, where he taught social sciences. He also coached the girls soccer team and the boys basketball team, which won a state championship in 2003 under his helm.

Wood provided Fowle a statement accepting responsibility and saying he was sorry for his actions.
