NEW PORTLAND — Award-winning Canadian songwriter Ian Sherwood — known for mixing catchy melodies and heart-breaking stories with intricate guitar loops, saxophones and pop/rock/jazz grooves — will bring his “The Maine Event” to four concert venues this month.

Performances, presented by New England Celtic Arts, will be at North New Portland Community Church on Tuesday, July, 19; Skye Theatre Performing Arts Center in Carthage, in partnership with the Kingfield POPS, on Wednesday July 20; Unity College Center for the Performing Arts on Thursday, July 21; and Fisherman’s Wharf Inn in Boothbay Harbor on Friday, July 22.

Curtain is at 7 p.m. at NNPCC, Skye and Fisherman’s Wharf; 7:30 p.m. at Unity. There will be a jam session one hour prior to curtain at Skye and Unity.

Sherwood will take the stage with fellow Canadian songsmiths Carmel Mikol and Charlie A’Court. All three are no strangers to songwriter’s circles and each is involved in his/her own events throughout Canada.

Sherwood comes from a background of roots and jazz, and Mikol from roots and Celtic. A’Court is a seasoned blues artist.

Sherwood is equally at home in front of a large festival audience or a quiet house concert. His energetic stage show and honest presentation have gained him recognition as a solid performer, lyricist and player — and garnered him Music Nova Scotia’s 2008 and 2010 Musician of the Year awards.

His third CD, “And Now The Fun Begins,” earned an East Coast Music Association Award nomination for Konica Minolta Male Solo Recording of the Year.

A triple nominee at the 2011 East Coast Music Awards, Mikol has built her life around crafting songs, collecting stories and carving poetry out of the human experience. After a yearlong tour of Canada and the United States with her celebrated debut album, “In My Bones,” she returned to Cape Breton to record her latest album, “Creature.” She describes that CD on her website as “an Americana-tinged confluence of acoustic and electric guitar, banjo, mandolin, and unaffected vocals.”

Named Nova Scotia’s top entertainer at the 2009 Music Nova Scotia Awards, A’Court is an emotionally charged and soul moving performer. He won the 2007 East Coast Music Awards Pop Recording of the Year as well as the 2007 Music Nova Scotia Blues Recording of the Year for his album “Bring On The Storm.” He also won the 2003 Best Blues Artist for his debut album, “Color Me Gone.”

The NNPCC is at 14 Hancock Pond Road in North New Portland. Skye Theater is at 2 Highland Drive in South Carthage. UCCPA is at 42 Depot St., Unity. Fisherman’s Wharf Inn is at 22 Commercial St., Boothbay Harbor.

Tickets are $15 at the door at Skye and Unity; $25 at Fisherman’s Wharf Inn for dinner/concert. For ticket info at NNPCC, call 562-4445.
