GLENBURN, Maine — A Bangor man was transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center after his dog jumped into his lap, causing his car to veer off the road and crash into a utility pole, according to Penobscot County Sheriff’s Deputy Sean McCue.

Micah Bouchard, 32, was driving on Union Street in Glenburn near Grace Snow Drive when he lost control of his 2002 two-door Saturn at around noon Tuesday.

According to statements Bouchard made to paramedics and witnesses, “he had a little lap dog in the car” that jumped on him and distracted him, McCue said.

Bouchard “was alert and conscious but complaining of chest pain” after the crash, McCue said.

McCue did not know what breed the dog was or if it was injured in the crash because it was gone by the time he reached the scene.

“I’m assuming the dog made it through OK,” McCue said.
