Volunteer support
FARMINGTON — SugarWood Gallery will host an appreciation reception for The Mission at the Eastward volunteer teams and their local volunteer support groups from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, July 17, at 248 Broadway. The public is invited to meet the volunteers and to bring a potluck hors d’oeuvre to share. The visiting teams this coming week are from Allentown, N.J., Sudbury, Mass., and Boston.
The North Parish Housing Ministry is a ministry of the Mission at the Eastward, and is an area of coverage served by the Fairbanks, New Portland and North New Portland churches. It has been in existence for about 35 years.
Volunteer Mission teams from all over the northeast come to Western Maine during the months of June, July and August to help homeowners make needed repairs and maintenance to their homes.
Swim lessons
HARTFORD — Swimming lessons will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Monday, July 18, through Friday, July 29, at Hartford Town Beach for the towns of Hartford, Canton, Sumner and Buckfield.

Street dance
RANGELEY — Rangeley Friends of the Arts annual Street Dance will be held on Main Street from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Tuesday, July 19. Downtown Rangeley becomes a dance floor when Main Street is closed to traffic. Joe Montimurro and Scott Iverson & Friends will be featured. Music will include classic rock and roll, Beatles, Mamas & the Papas and Rolling Stones. All ages.
Garden club
WELD — The Mt. Blue Area Garden Club will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, at Theda Fairbanks’s perennial garden on a scenic hillside on Center Hill Road. Members are asked to bring a lawn chair, a bag lunch and a plant to swap with other members. Hostesses Laurie Patten, Mary Green and Barbara Bennett will provide desserts and beverages. FARMINGTON — A free community senior citizen’s lunch will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, at Living Waters Assembly of God, 547 Wilton Road, between Farmington Ford and Franklin Printing.

DAR meeting
LIVERMORE — Mary Dillingham Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, will hold its first summer meeting to accommodate some of the snowbirds who are a part of the chapter, but never get to attend meetings. The group will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 20, at the home of long-time member Martha Beardsley in Livermore. Lunch will be provided, but chips, drinks and desserts can be brought.
The group will go over the National Information Packet, and see what new directions the chapter might go. DAR is for today, for patriotism, education, fellowship and historical preservation.

‘Mystery ride’
NEW VINEYARD — The New Vineyard Historical Society will enjoy their second annual “Mystery Ride” on Wednesday, July 20. Members are asked to be at the Historical Room at 10 a.m. to leave promptly at 10:30. Participants should bring a picnic lunch and dress according to the weather. Bug spray might be useful. Walking will be at a minimum.

RANGELEY — The next community breakfast will be from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Wednesday, July 20, at Rangeley Inn. All are invited.

Fair, fashion
RANGELEY — The Summer Fair and Fashion Show will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 21, at Good Shepherd Church, Main Street. There will be Christmas crafts, assorted gift items, bake table and luncheon.
The event features a unique fashion show of Thrift Shoppe outfits worn by mystery super models, male and female. There will be food, including homemade pies.
Library update
WAYNE — “What’s Going on Here?,” an informational update, will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 21, at Cary Memorial Library, Old Winthrop Road.
