LISBON — In April, a group of 14 students from Lisbon Falls Christian Academy travelled to the Word of Life Inn in Schroon Lake, N.Y., for the annual ACE Northeast Regional Student Convention.
RSC is a weeklong competition for students that use the Accelerated Christian Education curriculum at their schools. There are 141 events to choose from; LFCA competed in music, spelling, dramatics, art, photography, woodworking, quilting, track and field, writing, chess, checkers and ping-pong.
Friday morning was the awards ceremony. LFCA came home with 16 first-place, 10 second-place, five third-place, six fourth-place, four fifth-place and seven sixth-place medals, as well as third place overall in platform (drama), second place in academics and first place in exhibits.
LFCA students earned the following awards.
First place in category: Sam Sherburne, brass solo; Jennifer Newendyke, spelling; Sarah Riggs and Jess Newendyke, dramatic dialogue; Susanna Sherburne, Sam Sherburne, Alexia Ancona, Jennifer Newendyke and Richard Riggs, one act play; Susanna Sherburne, Alexis Ancona, Emma Gumprecht and Jennifer Newendyke, female quartet; Alexis Ancona, dramatic monologue; Emma Gumprecht, sketching; Jennifer Newendyke, pen and ink; Jess Newendyke, art: colored pencil; Susanna Sherburne, photography: scenic; Alexis Ancona, photography: color still life; Jennifer Newendyke, photography: color character trait; Mark Haskell, woodworking; Susanna Sherburne, quilting; and Jennifer Newendyke, photography: color plants.
Second place: Richard Riggs, 200 meter dash; Alexis Ancona, spelling; Sarah Riggs, 1600 meter run; Susanna Sherburne and Jennifer Newendyke, dramatic dialogue; Susanna Sherburne, writing: short story; Chris Riggs, poetry recitation; Jess Newendyke, art: water color; Alexis Ancona, photography: black & white scenic; Jennifer Newendyke, writing: essay; and Susanna Sherburne, photography: character trait.
Third place: Emma Gumprecht, female piano solo; Richard Riggs, 100 meter dash; Matthew McGuire, chess; Emma Gumprecht and Alexis Ancona, dramatic dialogue; and Emma Gumprecht, writing: essay.
Fourth place: Ronnie Partridge, male piano solo; Trevor Haggerty, checkers; Matthew McGuire, spelling; Samuel Sherburne, photography: scenic; Susanna Sherburne, photography: color still life and photography: color plants.
Fifth place: Sarah Riggs, 400 meter run; Richard Riggs and Sam Sherburne, dramatic dialogue; Sam Sherburne, shot-put; and Ronnie Partridge, art: water color.
Sixth place: Chris Riggs, spelling; Sam Sherburne, discuss; Alexia Ancona, writing: short story; Chris Riggs, long jump; Mark Haskell, art: colored pencil; Samuel Sherburne, photography: character trait; and Jacob McGuire, photography: color character trait.
