OXFORD — The Thompson Lake Environmental Association is offering a free pontoon boat tour on July 23 to show its work in fighting erosion over the past two years.
The ongoing project has involved vegetated buffers to control erosion and improve the water quality. Soil eroding from land contains phosphorus, a plant fertilizer that can lead to algae blooms. Algae clouds the water, which can ruin swimming and boating and cause property values to decline.
The tour begins at the Robinson Marina in Oxford at 9 a.m. and is set to run about two hours. Space is limited, and anyone interested in going should contact Jeff Stern at [email protected].
