JAY — Police are investigating a break-in at C.N. Brown on Main Street early Saturday morning. Police say they have leads in the burglary.
An undisclosed number of cartons of cigarettes were stolen after a cement block was used to break the front glass door of the service station and convenience store, Jay police Detective Richard Caton IV said Monday.
The burglary alarm went off at 4:45 a.m. Saturday, he said.
Officer Russell Adams and Cpl. Jeff Fournier responded and called Caton to the scene. Livermore Falls police Sgt. Steve Allen and Franklin County Sheriff Deputy B. David Rackliffe and his tracking dog, Odin, also responded to assist Jay.
Rackliffe and Odin tracked about 200 yards behind residences on Main Street before the scent was lost, Caton said.
Evidence was collected at the scene and will be brought to the State Crime Laboratory to be analyzed, he said.
If anyone saw anything or heard anything in relation to the break-in, they are asked to call the Jay Police Department at 897-6766.
