LEWISTON — An Auburn police officer who crashed his motorcycle in Oxford earlier this week was recovering Wednesday at a Lewiston hospital.
Michael Chaine, 39, of Bridgton, has undergone surgeries to repair a broken wrist and reattach one of his ears, according to Auburn police Chief Phil Crowell.
According to the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, Chaine was riding his Kawasaki south on Route 26 Monday when he ran into the back of a car, whose driver was stopped and preparing to turn into a business parking lot.
Chaine and a boy riding on the back were rushed to Central Maine Medical Center. The boy, who was wearing a helmet, suffered less severe injuries, police said. He was not identified.
Chaine was not wearing a helmet when he crashed, police said.
Crowell said it was not known when Chaine will return to duty.
“He’ll be back,” the chief said. “But right now, he’s got some healing to do.”
