Acting upon the advice of Attorney General William R. Pattangall of Waterville, the Board of Prison and Jail Inspectors of Maine, yesterday settled the long drawn out controversy between the City of Auburn and the county in regard to the use by the former, of the county prisoners for labor on the highways. In a letter to Sheriff Hewitt M. Lowe, the prison inspectors have denied the city of Auburn the use of the prisoners.

Plans are in the last stages for the annual Little World’s Fair to be held at east Auburn.
This is the 13th year that the fair has been held by the East Auburn Community Unit Inc. to raise money fro community projects.
The fair this year will be held on Saturday, Aug.12. It will run from noon until midnight and will feature about the same activity which has spotlighted the fair in the 12 previous years.

Auburn police credited a 15-year-old newspaper carrier for getting ambulance help for an injured elderly man at 4:41 p.m. Saturday.
Police reports said that while collecting subscription fees, Mike Morgan, 15, heard Emile Laurendeau, 79, yelling for help. Morgan called the 911 emergency number, and police responded to the scene.
Police then summoned an ambulance to take Laurendeau to St. Mary’s Hospital. A hospital spokeswoman said Laurendeau was treated and released.
