RANGELEY — The Doobie Brothers, one of the most popular pop/rock bands of the 1970s, will play an outdoor concert in Rangeley on Saturday evening. General admission tickets were still available as of Friday evening.
The Doobie Brothers, sponsored by the Rangeley Region Health and Wellness Partnership and 94.9 WHOM radio, will take to the outdoor stage of the Rangeley Region Health and Wellness Pavilion off Dallas Hill Road in Rangeley at around 7 p.m.
The band was founded in the San Francisco Bay area in the early 1970s and garnered widespread national fame and popularity in 1972 with the release of its first album, “Listen to the Music.” The Doobies continued producing chart-topping music throughout the 1970s, with rock gems such as “Long Train Running,” “China Grove,” “Black Water” and “What a Fool Believes.”
Saturday’s concert will include hit classics from the past, as well as cuts from their newest album.
The Doobies will follow two local opening bands, Elmo Twist and the L-A Harley Band, which will begin playing at 4 p.m.
Gates open at 3 p.m. Concert seating is on a sloping lawn, facing Rangeley Lake and the western Maine mountains. Attendees are welcome to bring their own chairs and blankets. However, no food, beverages, pets or coolers will be allowed.
There will be several food and drink concession stands at the concert venue, including food from Bald Mountain Camps and Tall Tales Seafood
All parking will be off-site and within walking distance of the concert venue. There will be free shuttle buses picking up people at the Town Park, the Rangeley Inn and at designated lots along Route 4.
General admission concert tickets are $45, and will be available at the gate.
