FARMINGTON — Author Tracy Ann Lord will sign copies of her debut novel, “Good Catch,” from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, at Devaney, Doak & Garrett Booksellers.

The story, which takes place at a fishing camp in western Maine, centers around Maddie Chilton, a Miami-based public relations executive who suddenly finds herself shipped off by her former co-workers to a weeklong “hope you feel better” fishing hiatus. Maddie has no interest in fishing and is quick to question their motives in sending her to a “showers optional” kind of place.

“Being a boomer myself, I wanted to create a character who’d had some bumps, some ups and some downs, but was still somewhat of an optimist, albeit a questioning one,” Lord said. “And since I believe we all exist more-or-less by the level of humor we cling to, that plays a big part in Maddie’s story and the characters that surround her.”

The idea for the book was spawned by Lord’s own experiences at a camp in western Maine.

Devaney, Doak & Garrett is at 193 Broadway.
