AUBURN —Award-winning singer-songwriter Sara Cox will perform at L/A Arts’ “Sounds of Summer” noontime concert on Thursday, Aug. 4 at Festival Plaza.
Cox wrote her first lonesome ballad at age 6. She recently released her third solo album, “Crowded is the New Lonely.” Her previous CD, “Arrive,” drew attention that led to her being named “One to Watch” by the syndicated public radio show Acoustic Cafe in association with the USA Songwriting Competition.
Most recently, Cox won the Granite State Songwriting competition for “Crowded is the New Lonesome’s” sixth track, “At Home with Home.”
Cox has shared the stage with Ray LaMontagne, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, John Hiatt, Suzanne Vega, Stacey Earle, Joe Ely, Richard Buckner and Lori McKenna.
Originally from Nashville, Tenn., Cox’s parents are musicians and she grew up in a household where three-part harmony was a part of the usual after-dinner entertainment.
A mother of three, her songs are filled with honest, sometimes autobiographical, portraits of life. Her warm and resonant voice is always in the forefront, backed by longtime band mates guitarist Nate Schrock, bass player Steve Jones, vocalist Megan Jo Wilson and drummer Chicky Stoltz.
L/A Arts’ noon concerts are free. If it rains, the performance will be moved to the Franco-American Heritage Center, 46 Cedar St. For more information, call 782-7228 or send an email to [email protected].
