BRUNSWICK — John J. Slagus Sr., 73, of Birch Ridge Avenue, Topsham, and formerly of Bloomfield, N.J., died Thursday, July 28, at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick.
He was born on June 14, 1938, in Bayonne, N.J., a son of Peter and Isabelle (Buckoff) Slagus. He attended schools in New Jersey.
Mr. Slagus served in the U.S. Navy from 1957 to 1961. He was employed many years as an electronics technician for Westinghouse in Bloomfield, N.J. Mr. Slagus moved to Maine in 1984 and worked at Phillips Elmet in Lewiston from 1984 to 1993. He enjoyed spending time wine-making and brewing beer and in later years he enjoyed keeping himself busy making quilts which he donated to various places for people to enjoy.
Survivors include a son, John J. Slagus Jr. and his wife, Marie, of Belle Vernon, Pa.; two daughters, Patricia Slagus of Topsham, and Susan and her husband, Andrew Bruzel, of Land O’ Lakes, Fla.; a brother, Peter and his wife, Barbara Slagus, of Bridgewater, N.J.; and six grandchildren, Jessica, Kaitlyn and Lauren Slagus, and Benjamin, Patrick and Melissa Mowery.
He was predeceased by his wife Marjorie (Semancik) Slagus who died in 1999.
