AUBURN — William J. Cox, 95, of Wiley Road, Greene, died peacefully Saturday, July 30, while celebrating his birthday with his family at Hospice House of Androscoggin in Auburn.

He was born July 30, 1916, in Hooksett, N.H., the son of William G. and Myrtle Davis Cox Martin. William was a 1936 graduate of Manchester High School.

On April 19, 1941, in Manchester, N.H., he married Catherine E. Costello of Manchester. Catherine passed away on April 12, 1984.

In 1947, William went work for Bancroft & Martin in New Hampshire, later transferring to Leeds where he retired as superintendent after 40 years.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, target shooting, snowmobiling, and was an avid Red Sox fan. He and six of his close friends had camps in Moosehead and Rangeley, going there several times a year to enjoy good times together.

William was former president and member of the Tri-Corner A.C. in Leeds; a lifetime member of the N.R.A. and member of the Greene Hunting Club.

He is survived by his daughter, Mary Ellen McKenzie and her husband, Robert, of Framingham, Mass.; his grandson, Stewart W. McKenzie, also of Framingham, Mass.; two sisters, Dorothy Pascone and Thelma Carpetis; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews; and very special friends, Debra and Dennis Gunn, of Greene.

He was predeceased by his wife, Catherine Cox.
