FARMINGTON — Franklin County Commissioner Gary McGrane is in good spirits as he recovers from a tree-felling injury, Commission Chairman Fred Hardy said Tuesday.
McGrane, of Jay, was trying to remove the top of a dead portion of a tree that had broken off on his property to prevent his children and grandchildren from being injured, Hardy, of New Sharon, said. A dead branch, referred to sometimes as a “widow maker,” came down and hit McGrane on July 22, Hardy said.
He said he visited McGrane on Sunday in Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington and he was up walking.
McGrane has been a commissioner for District 1 for more than 20 years and serves the residents of Carthage, Jay and Wilton.
County business that could be postponed temporarily was done Tuesday so that a full board could make related decisions.
