LIVERMORE FALLS — Everyone is invited to a Chewonki Program, “Mammals of Maine — From Mice to Moose,” at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, at Treat Memorial Library.
The interactive program introduces students to native warm-blooded vertebrates, Maine mammals. Each participant will study a mounted animal and observes its characteristics. They will use the observations as clues to understanding adaptations, niche and habitat.
A collection of skulls, skins and other specimens will complement a discussion of adaptations and the role each animal plays in the food web. The program also provides a living example of a nonreleasable wild mammal.
Reading logs need to be turned in by Saturday, Aug. 6, as do library bingo sheets. Those who complete all 25 activities will be entered in a grand prize drawing. Recognition will be given to top summer readers at the musical finale at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18.
