Two people escaped a burning house in Mount Vernon on Tuesday after a lightning strike set it on fire, former Vienna Fire Chief Jon Ljunggren said. The house at 334 Wings Mill Road was engulfed in flames and smoke when firefighters arrived at about noon. One of the occupants complained of chest pains and was taken to a hospital, Ljunggren said. Mount Vernon rescue and Winthrop ambulance responded, as did mutual aid from Belgrade, Fayette, Manchester, Readfield, Vienna and Wayne.
Firefighters from different towns work together in Mt. Vernon Tuesday.
