AUBURN — The Auburn Public Library extends an invitation to community members interested in taking part in a nonfiction book discussion group at noon Wednesday, Aug. 10.

The title to be discussed is “Gang Leader for a Day: A Rogue Sociologist Takes to the Streets” by Sudhir Venkatesh.

The story of the young sociologist who studied a Chicago crack-dealing gang from the inside captured the world’s attention when it was first described in Freakonomics. “Gang Leader for a Day” is the full story of how Sudhir Venkatesh managed to get into the gang and what he learned about gang operations.

The title to be discussed at noon Wednesday, Sept. 21, will be “The World Without Us” by Alan Weisman. The book asks several questions based on the idea that humans no longer exist. For example, how would the planet reclaim its surface? What creatures would emerge? How would tunnels, bridges, homes and monuments survive? Weisman draws on every field of science to answer the questions and more.

Those who would like to attend either book discussion may contact Lending Services by calling 333–6640.
