GRAY — The Maine Wildlife Park will sponsor its annual “Honor the Animals” Native American Pow Wow on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 13 and 14. 

Representatives from several Maine and New England tribes will be at the park for two days with native dancers, drummers, craft vendors, singers and traditional food booths. Special events will be presented throughout each day. The Friends of the Maine Wildlife Park will staff a barbecue lunch on both days, with all proceeds to benefit the wildlife park.

Music will include performances by Black Thunder, Hard Times (from Canada) and Mountain Spirit. A traditional Wikki travel shelter, with numerous Native American and Colonial artifacts, will be available for viewing each day with Ken Hamilton, a Maine 17th and 18th century woodland living historian, interpreter and blacksmith.

The grand entry will occur at noon both days, with Natives from many tribes participating in full regalia. The wildlife park’s resident bald eagle, “Lawrence,” participates in grand entry.
