AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — Dan A. Gwadosky, a former Maine House speaker and secretary of state who later served as director of state liquor and lottery operations, has died. He was 57.

Gwadosky, who died Wednesday, served 18 years in the House of Representatives, the last four from 1993-1996 as speaker. He was secretary of state of Maine from 1997 to 2005 and later headed the Bureau of Alcoholic Beverages and Lottery Operations. He lived with his wife Cheryl and their two children in Augusta.

Former Gov. John Baldacci said Gwadosky “made a tremendous contribution to the state of Maine through a long career in public service” and he “was always able to bring people together to move our state forward.”
