PHILLIPS — The Phillips Old Home Days Flower Show Committee under the direction of Dorothy Haggan recently released the schedule for their upcoming show. In keeping with the OHD’s theme, “The Best Things in Life are Free,” this year’s show theme is “The Best Things Come in All 4 Seasons.”

With categories in both design and horticulture and for both adults and children, the show will be staged at the Phillips Public Library in the Paul G. Whittemore Building on Main Street. Schedules are also available in local stores. The show will be open to the public from noon to 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 20. All participants should pick up their entries by 1 p.m. Saturday.

There are four classes in the adult design category, one for each season. In the winter class, entries should feature red and white blooms and evergreens. Pastel colors in pottery is the theme for the spring class. Anything goes in summer so designers have free choice of material and containers. Weathered wood with fall colors such as browns, reds and yellows are featured in autumn. Accessories are permitted in each class.

Children ages 3-8 may enter the vacation class which requires a water garden in glass bowl. Accessories are allowed in the bowl. For children ages 9-13, the class is back to school. Include one or more accessory related to school in the design.

Because display space is limited, all design entries must fit into a 15-inch by 15-inch space on the table. Exhibitors may enter one arrangement in any class.

In the horticulture category, participants may enter one specimen raised by the exhibitor in each category. Each specimen should be labeled if possible. The six classes are gladiolus, annuals, perennials, houseplants, roses and vegetables. Within the vegetable class, exhibitors may show a single specimen or a collection of vegetables and/or fruit in his or her choice of container. Containers must not exceed 12 inches in any direction. Oval trays, 12 inches by eight inches, will be available for anyone without their own container.

Entries will be accepted at the library from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18. Judging will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 19.
