FARMINGTON — A truck driver parked at Irving’s Big Stop on the Wilton Road had a rude awakening Thursday morning.
Another truck driver attempting to leave the parking lot behind the restaurant turned too quickly and his trailer scraped the left headlight of the sleeping driver’s truck, Farmington Police Sgt. Peter Barton said.
Charles A. Phillips, 47, of Elmira, N.Y., was sleeping in a 2011 Freightliner registered to H.O. Wolding of Amherst, Wis., when a 2011 Freightliner registered to Wright Express of Nashville, Tenn., driven by Ronald Cooper, 40, of Willimantic, Conn., struck the vehicle, the officer said.
Cooper didn’t know he struck the truck and drove off. Phillips awoke to catch the license and truck number, the officer said.
There was no damage to Cooper’s truck but Barton estimated there was about $3,000 of damage to Phillips’ truck.
Police tracked Cooper to the Poland Spring plant in Kingfield. He returned to the scene later Thursday afternoon and made contact with the other driver.
No charges are pending because Cooper didn’t know his trailer had struck the truck, Barton said.
