LEWISTON — Even before the fall baseball season begins, the L/A Lumberjaxx are keeping busy with pre-season events. This past Saturday, members of both the Black & Maroon squads had a chance to bond while raising funds for equipment and other expenses by holding a car wash at Pep Boys on Center Street in Auburn.
Another group of players headed for Thorncrag Bird Sanctuary in Lewiston for some trail-maintenance & trash clean-up. Armed with trash bags and gloves, teams of two players each made their way to the fireplace, each on a different trail. While not alot of trash was found, the group did remove glass and other foreign objects from the walking paths as well as a fair amount of trash from the East Ave. parking area.
Meanwhile, the rest of the group at the car wash raised a little over $200 in a few short hours and had some fun working together toward a team goal. Future community service projects are in the works for future dates this fall.
The 2011 Lumberjaxx teams are sponsored by Lewiston PAL, Rooper’s, Friendly Ice Cream, Pinette-Lynch Funeral Home, & Jasmine Cafe.
