WINSLOW — The Winthrop Red Sox (9-7) ended the Pine Tree League senior baseball regular season with a convincing 15-4 win over the first-place Winslow Green Wave.
Winthrop’s Matt Richardson contributed both at the plate and on the mound as he collected two hits, drove in three runs and hurled a complete. seven-inning game shortened by rain.
Richardson plated Bob Cochran in the second and fifth innings. Cochran reached safely in all five plate appearances via three walks, a hit by pitch and a 2-run single. The duo accounted for eight of the team’s 15 runs.
Winslow (10-5) hit the ball hard all game, but flawless Red Sox defense kept the Wave in check. Kyle Gunzinger pounded a double and two singles for Winslow, with Jesse LaCasse and Jody Jose adding two hits apiece.
Brett Witherell and Ian McCarthy led Winthrop’s 14-hit attack with three hits each. J.P. Palleschi delivered a pair of hits.
Playoffs get underway Sunday Aug. 14. Top seeds are Winslow from the east and West Paris out of the west.
