The thirteenth annual reunion of the Barkerville School was held at the W. C. T. U. building at the Maine State Fair Grounds Thursday with a fine attendance of members, past and present, of the student body and teaching staff of the school. Up to dinner time, all past the hours pleasantly, renewing old friendships and making new ones.
50 years ago, 1961
The Auburn Lanes, a new candlepin bowling center, will open in Auburn today and is located at 261 Main St., the site of the former Sampson’s supermarket. It is operated by Arthur Mickalide of Montello St. and Arthur Kesaris Jr. of Elm Street, Lewiston.
25 years ago, 1986
The Sabattus Parade and Old Time Field Day was held Saturday. The event, sponsored by the Sabattus Recreation Club, was meant to be a family event and fundraiser. The bands, floats and fire trucks from Sabattus and Wales left the elementary school, climbed High Street and went across onto Route 9 all the way to Pleasant Hill Road. Field Day followed at the new baseball field on Pleasant Hill Road. Events included spoon races, sack races, greased pigs, greased pole, darts, horseshoes, and pie and chili eating contests.
